What is Dandruff

Dandruff is nothing but our dead skin cells. Every person lose thousands of skin cells every minute. Production and shredding of skin cells keep on happening parallely. It’s a normal process. But when due to some reasons the shredding of dead skin cells happen at fast rate than these cells take form of dandruff. This happens when ph value of our scalp get disturbed. The dead skin cells combined together which results in white flakes, itchiness and redness on scalp. New born babies may get thick, yellowish, crusty rash on scalp called cradle cap. The reasons for dandruff are described below.

As it’s name explain this occurs on dry scalp. There can be various causes of dry scalp. Like washing hair with sulfate shampoo, rinsing hair with warm water. Dry dandruff looks like white flakes which usually looks like snow fall while combing hair. One should avoid coloring hair who have dry scalp. People having curly hair are more prone to dry scalp. Oily Scalp Dandruff

Those people who have straight hair have more chance of oily scalp. The various causes of oily scalp are explained here. As we know dandruff is nothing but our dead skin cells. When these dead skin cells come in contact with oil on scalp they get bunch up together to make yellowish flakes. This form is more chronic than dry one. Another research proves that this oil further attracts fungus called malassezia which in turn produce oleic acid as a byproduct that further harm skin and produce more dandruff. People who are suffered with this problem should not do oil massage as it can even worse the condition. Wash hair more often to remove extra oil from the scalp.
